Petroleum Products API Gravity conversion to 60F from observed temperature as per ASTM 5B  and volume Correction VCF as per Petroleum tables ASTM 6B using an App developed.

The App developed converts a) API Gravity at 60 Deg F from observed API Gravity and temperature and b) calculates the bulk volume from natural to volume at 60 deg F, US barrels at 60 deg F, US Gallons at 60F for Petroleum Products.

Large volume of petroleum products moves from production to user refineries globally. Oil Industry uses ASTM tables published by API/IP/ASTM  to account Oil quantity on board of the tankers for calculating quantity.

It may be noted that this App is using tables ASTM 5B and 6B,  for Petroleum Products and not for Crude Oil for which there are different ASTM tables for Corrections. See different Apps suiting this.

US, Canada, Persian Gulf, etc where FPS system  with API Gravity, US Barrels, and Deg F is more prevalent Standard temperature being 60 deg F.

Certain countries use 20 deg  C as standard temperature. These are Russia, Russian influenced most of Eastern block CIS countries Brazil etc. See different Apps suiting this.

The App Description:

Gravity Conversion from the natural observed API Gravity to Gravity @60 deg F as per ASTM 5B.

Input is the API gravity at observed temperature and Observed temperature F.

Output is API Gravity at 60 Deg F.


Scrolling down - Volume Correction as per ASTM 6AB and calculation part of the App appears.

Input is Bulk Oil Temperature F,  API Gravity at 60F is automatic picked up.

Output is VCF to 60F and volume in bbls.

API Gravity Conversion from observed temperature to 60 deg F using the APP has following fixtures/benefits:

a)   Accurate as per the ASTM API Gravity Conversion table 5B and VCF as per ASTM 6B.
b)   Can be used in Mobile Phone or Laptop/Desktop. 
The app is compatible with the iOS and android systems.
c) After initial downloading, the app functions without internet for calculation.
d)  Avoids manual human error in reading ASTM Book table/Conversion formula disk.
e)   Far Simpler than using the charts & formula wheel to work out conversions.
f)   Very very convenient to use in the field say at Marin Jetty, on the board of Vessels, receiving/dispatching tank trucks, marine tanker loading/unloading, pipeline samples density conversions, etc where ASTM Conversion charts are cumbersome to be carried/use and likely human error may occur, leading to costly consequences.

Density conversion to any temperature say 20 C, 15 C or any desired temperature from any observed temp Some of the countries like Russian block follow standard temperature 20 deg C as compared to Commonwealth countries which have standard temperature 15 deg C.  The calculator developed for conversion of Density from observed temperature to 20C or 15C or any desired temperature is thus very handy.   It may be noted that the calculator is for finished petroleum products and uses ASTM tables 1952 version for this conversion.
