Has Aviation fuel specification IS 1571 kept pace with International fuel specifications ?

- Myth of  Not to fill gasoline (petrol) tank full in summer For the last couple of years, a message has been circulating in the name of Indian Oil Corporation Limited, warning people not to fill petrol up to the maximum limit in Car/two-wheelers, as there could be explosions as due to the heat .  Even some newspaper also further spread such news. Irony is we accept what we read without applying our mind and simply forward such msgs further to friends and relatives in social media considering their safety.  Explosion due to heat requires three things – fuel, suitable temperature or spark and oxygen (air) to support it. Myth – Condensed water gets accumulated in Gas (Petrol) tank of the vehicle

Myth – Condensed water gets accumulated in Gas (Petrol) tank of the vehicle Facts – True and False. It depends on how much water. Water in fuel tank either remain at the bottom of the fuel tank or remain mixed with petrol in same liquid phase.  It is important to know whether the petrol contain any alcohol or it is alcohol free. Water is almost non-miscible with pure petrol hydrocarbons. Condensed water will be accumulated slowly in Vehicle Gas tank at bottom  if petrol does not contain any alcohol (Ethanol, Methanol etc).  Many countries now commonly use Petrol mixed with say 5 to 20 percent of Ethanol/Methanol.  Any water condensation happening in fuel tank will immediately be absorbed in such fuel because of alcohol and thus remain in fuel phase and will go out to engine and ultimately out of vehicle exhaust.   Condensation takes place as air gets sucked in fuel tank as the fuel is pumped out when engine is on and also due to day night temper...

Petroleum Industry has already stepped in Gas age from liquid age fuels.  CNG/LPG has taken over role of Gasoline/diesel as auto fuels.  CNG/LNG has replaced Naphtha, Diesel, Residual Fuel Oil etc in electric generating power plants and other industry as fuel replacement.  Kerosene in kitchen is being replaced by LPG which is further replaced by PNG in cities.
